about

First of all, I'll answer the most obvious question... NO this song is not autibiographical :) I've never "woken up in the arms of a stranger" and I'm usually able to remember my name in the morning.

I wrote this song at a time when several of my friends were making really dangerous life choices without any thought as to what the end result might be. I tried to express my concerns as tactfully as I could, but they didn't want to hear it.

Perhaps in a fit of passive-agressive angst, I wrote this song and started playing it at shows. A few of my friends didn't make the connection, but one of my closest friends called me several months after hearing the song and asked out of the blue..'Hey, is that "Havin the Time of My Life" song about me?' I told her it was about a lot of people, including her. She seemed strangely flattered.

I'm happy to say that at this time (in 2010), most of the muses of this song are happily married, settled down, and a little wiser for the wear.

lyrics

There's a sign in the old churchyard
Askin me if I know where I'm gonna go If I die tonight
Why would I wanna think about that right now?
I'm havin' the time of my life

I'm wakin' up in the arms of a stranger
Sometimes can't remember his name or mine
I'll just save all the savin' for later
Cause I'm havin' the time of my life

There's a message from my landlord
On the answering machine
Guess the rent's a few weeks late again
And he doesn't seem to happy with me
But there's no time to think about that right now
I'm havin' the time of my life

A pretty smile gets a drink from a stranger
We could end up at his place or mine
So I'll save all the details for later
Cause I'm havin' the time of my life

There's a letter from my mama
Lyin' on the kitchen table
Askin' me when I'll get sober
Askin' me when I'll get stable again
Well I don't wanna think about that right now
I'm havin' the time of my life

I'll find relief in the arms of a stranger
With no regard for his heart or mine
Well I may mourn my innocence later
But I'm havin' the time of my life

I'm wakin up in the arms of a stranger
Sometimes can't remember his name or mine
But I'll save all the savin' for later
Cause I'm havin' the time of my life
